Community Kitchen

After Katimavik, I was offered a short time position at the Upper Skeena Development Center in Hazelton. I was informed I would be a participant in a group, working with food, clearing trails, and would be required to fill out reflection forms. This was ironic, considering I had spent the last nine months doing very similar work.

My group consisted of myself and several friends from high school working together to create a community kitchen. Our goal was to invite and teach community members how to cook and bake healthy meals. Once a week, we would clear trails behind the secondary school. This was helpful for the local running group, the Hazelton Steamers Club. Along with healthy eating, we wanted to support a physical lifestyle in the Hazeltons as well.

I grew very fond of the Upper Skeena Development Center and their partner organization, The Learning Shop (or by their formal name, Story Tellers) Their focus on community development and social interaction would thoroughly encourage me in future endeavors.
